What To Eat in New Orleans

Everyone knows that one of the best things about an American road trip is the foooood!! Each state, and sometimes even each city, has it’s own signature dishes, nowhere more so than New Orleans. I was a bit worried before my visit as the city is so famous for its seafood and to say I have an aversion to fish is an understatement, but I got stuck it, picked more than my fair share of shrimp out of various gumbos, and came out of the other side, alive and ready to share my guide on what to eat in New Orleans.

Starting strong with my ultimate favourite NOLA food joint, Dat Dog. Not even an 8 hour drive plagued by food poisoning could stop me from enjoying what I’m going to describe as “the best hot dog I have ever eaten”. And that’s coming from a girl who has eaten hot dogs for every meal of the day before. Choose from a variety of meat sausages (including the duck dog, amazing!), top it with whatever you want or ask the chefs to decide for you. The chips are pretty damn amazing as well and the atmosphere will make you want to stay forever. There are several locations around the city so you’re too far from the perfect evening.

Have I figured out how a Po Boy is different to a sandwich? No? Do I still want to eat them every day? Yes. Mother’s is a NOLA institution and claims to serve the world’s best baked ham. Get it in the Famous Ferdi Special Po Boy, covered in beef debris gravy for the messiest eating experience of your life. The jambalaya is also worth a try if you want a taste of authentic Louisiana. I’m still not sure how they make rice taste like something completely new and exciting but somehow they manage it.
